World Cancer Research Day
Behind every treatment, there’s research

What is WCRD
Supporting cancer research awareness since 2016
Cancer has a profound impact on millions of lives across the globe, sparking widespread conversations about its challenges and implications. However, one essential aspect often receives less attention: research. Scientific advancements in cancer research pave the way for new treatments, improved patient outcomes, and ultimately, hope. This initiative established September 24th as a commemorative date to unite global efforts, foster collaboration, and accelerate progress in the fight against cancer.

Why research matters
The importance of the fight against cancer

01. Social impact
Cancer is expected to become one of the leading causes of death globally, with 24,1 million new cases predicted annually by 2030. Beyond the medical consequences, cancer deeply affects families, disrupts communities, and puts immense pressure on public health systems.
02. Economic impact
Cancer carries the highest economic burden worldwide compared to other causes of death, including infectious diseases. This impact is driven by lost productivity, premature mortality, and the long-term costs associated with treatment, care and disability.

03. Importance
of research
Researching the causes, prevention, and early detection of cancer is essential. The results can drive progress toward finding a cure or managing cancer as a chronic condition, and they have significantly improved survival rates and the quality of life for countless patients worldwide.
04. A long-distance run
There are still major challenges to overcome, from improving prevention to creating more affordable treatments with fewer side effects. Strengthening international collaboration, securing long-term funding, and expanding research training remain key priorities and will lead to better outcomes for cancer patients worldwide.

Who we are
